Today I got the review that most authors dream of.
Finding this story is like finding something dark in such a bright place.
That doesn't mean I didn't like this; I definitely enjoyed reading this,
because, unlike other Team 7-centered fics, it holds something almost ironical
about it, but I couldn't really figure out what.
But what I enjoyed most was your choice of words. As if they were randomly
chosen, hastily taped and placed together, like broken glue and puzzles,
almost haphazardly connected. And yet... they make so much sense if you think
about it. That's what is so beautiful about it, it doesn't have to make any
sense, sometimes.
You have an awesome talent for writing. I think this at least deserves some
praise, so I hope that my review would at least mean something to this story,
and maybe even to you. I wrote this in response:
You know this is probably one of the best reviews I've ever had the pleasure of receiving - so thank you. I'm usually never one to try and over explain myself - or reply for that matter - but I'm glad that the irony was perceived.
I've always felt that there was something very beautiful in the notion of trained assassins ... on teams. Working together, learning, etc., bonding. The show does a terrific job of showing how Konoha does terrible things to its youngsters, to the point that maybe they created the team idea because it would foster stronger feelings of loyalty towards the town. And Sakura is one of the smartest characters on the show, and I think that she would be the type to muse on it, versus sasuke and naruto who don't care, or go with it respectively.
So I sat down and decided to see a different side of Sakura's idea of 'team.' Naruto would die for it, Sasuke doesn't want it, and Sakura's in the middle - not really sure how to proceed. Her character growth eventually merged with the growth of her understanding of how to function as a teammate - when your halves are running around trying to kill each other. Her role shifts away from 'being the best,' to 'this is my world,' in a different way than the anime (which I feel made it more like Sasuke-sasuke-sasuke, though that too is great character development.
In the end, I just wanted to write about Sakura. Because every author needs one of them. Thank you for your review, and I hope that this ... monstrous response helped. (And I thank you very much for just reading this far.) Thank you for your words.

Now I know why everyone's into this series. It's not "let's break hollowed ground" sort of anime. Not quite like Naruto (which for all it's typical shounen messages - friends are important! revenge is evil! - also has heartbreaking reality. Like death. And kids that really learn how to grow up. Did I mention how much I actually enjoy Naruto?)
And plot holes, yes. Large and gaping.But Bleach. Oh goodness. I do have a thing for "god of death" dramas, but this series is much more sophisticated than I gave it credit. There is that lovely scene where Renji breaks down, and when Rukia breaks down 20-something female anime sterotypes. And true, there are lots of average characters. Like the Quincies, and the other Kuchiki. And simplistic reasons, like "fighting for that person, only." Or "her sister told me so. And afterwards, I was all 'rules man!'" But then there's Rukia, who makes the show, because she balances that wonderful line of being tough, vulnerable, and loveable. And Orihime who displays a more restrained passionate love than anyone... except Renji.
I wish he wasn't stereotypical, but his let-me-pretend-i-hate-you exterior fused with his own squishy interior, and the love he holds for Rukia (the kind that causes him pain beyond measure, but he won't give up, because he is that type of guy) is endearing.
And Soul Society? What a great concept. A broken down, hunkering piece of bureaucracy that can barely function. And now everyone knows why I'm constantly late to work, because I stay up for this. Ouch.
Preferred Ship? Rukia/Renji. Fo' sho'.
Holy Crap Why Do I like this ship? Ichigo/Rukia (wouldn't it be so much cooler if they didn't get married, and instead angsted for years?)
WTF Matsumoto and Hitsugaya.
Age does matter... for now momo and Hitsugaya.
Cannon is with me Yoruichi/Soi Fong
Did not see that coming Hyakuya/anyone (this actually surprised me. no joke. Deus ex Machina, anyone?)
Kinda creeped out/Kinda turned on Rukia/Byakuya

Random factoids about SisT. OCs.
1.
Shiro's innate ability is morphing. He can use his chakra to change his DNA/cells into anyone's he has ever met. He cannot copy attacks, nor can he copy bloodline traits. But scent and sound are very easy for him. Due to the high amount of chakra needed for these usualy short transformations (imagine trying to concentrate on the exact smell, sound, and even "texture" of one person at the same time...), he tends to conserve his traits, and relies more on jutsus, and cunning. It's not until his late teens that he can morph longer than an hour. This takes a tremendous toll on him, and makes healing him take twice as long - and will at times prevent him from morphing for months.
2.
Haruka on the other hand is gifted because she has no recognizable human scent. I've actually considered some of the physics for this... but it's dull stuff. She has no finger prints, and the only way to track her is through her pupils. This makes her one of the best spies that Sound will ever produce.
3.
Chinatsu and Suigetsu are oddly close. As an orphen, she began robbing innocent people. When she found Suigetsu bent over her recent kills - without knowing they were mid level missions - she attacked him with a ferocity that matched his. In exchange for not killing her, he took her back to Sound. Her main expertise is much like Lee's - determination and ferocity, screw chakra use! She has a difficult time seperating her emotions from her abilities, and tries to not rely on anything as tenuous as her temper.
4.
What happened to Isamu's tongue? No one is sure, but it as something to do with his father, and a mission that went to hell involving his mother. His dark skin is also from his father, who is legendary for skin as brown as earth.
5.
Chinatsu has wanted to kill Shiro since they first met. When assigned, he commented on her hair, and she kicked him in the stomach. Isamu rolled his eyes, as they proceeded to try and kill each other. Note - they would've if Karin hadn't broken the two up. Also note - it was his second day in Sound.
6.
When Sasuke finally came back to Sound, Karin was there at the gates along with the remenents of team Hawk, and a few voyeurs.
"Welcome home," she said.

Oh, oh. I just finished. Every chapter has at least one draft. I'll be tinkering around and a new fic will be posted by this weekend.
So now begins the editing, and the detailing, and the contouring. Man, the style changes quite a bit, and while I'm not a hundred percent happy with it... I'm finished. Plus, I've got time.
This makes me want to post it all online, but it's not polished, and I like having that time in between posting to tinker with it again before putting it out. That and I do care about reviews. I won't ask for them, but sometimes they shed good insight into characters, and etc.
Hahaha. I finished.
I finished a fic, and even if I'll never post it online. It's done.
